Thanks for posting these positive, and true, words about Martinsville, my hometown. A native Artesian (the moniker for people from Martinsvile), I can appreciate as well as second your comments about the new spirit in downtown Martinsville. I have visited many of the same tiny local crafts and collectibles shops and discovered that a favorite among my high chool classmates, The Candy Kitchen, has risen from the ashes left after business moved to the 37 bypass around the town--along with many new shops around the beautiful courthouse square. Local artists abound and 4 local painters have opened Artsworks of Martinsville on 147 N. Mefferson Street. Some are active in Indiana Plein Air Painters Association. One of them, Nancy Maxwell, is part of the group featured in the new Quarry Books (a subsidiary of IU Press) publication, "Painting Indiana II, the changing face of Agriculture" -- an excellent book. But I digress. I hope others join us in discovering downtown Martinsville; there are good people there making great changes in their community. An IU grad and staff member
Movies we love: Hoosiers, Breaking Away, Wordplay, Kinsey, Anything with Kevin Kline Music: Hoagie Carmichael, John Mellencamp, Joshua Bell Books: Godel Escher Bach
